BBC pundit: Rise of Tottenham 23-year-old has been meteoric (not Kane)
By Danny Wright
Garth Crooks has hailed Eric Dier for his performance in Tottenham’s win over Burnley.
The BBC pundit included the 23-year-old in his team of the week, alongside Dele Alli, after he broke the deadlock in Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Clarets.
Crooks, 59, has labelled Dier’s rise as ‘meteoric’ despite him suffering to find his best form this season, especially in European competition.
The Spurs enforcer has been widely criticised by supporters after a number of matches throughout the campaign.
However, Mauricio Pochettino has kept the faith in Dier and he has only missed five games in all competitions.

“Dier’s progress for club and country has been meteoric, although this season we’ve seen the occasional glitch here and there, especially in the Champions League games at Wembley,” said Crooks on the BBC Sport website.
“Nevertheless, the defender strikes me as a solid individual with leadership qualities, the sort of defender a manager can depend upon in a crisis.
“His goal against Burnley will do his confidence a power of good. I’ve not seen Dier smile in an interview for a long time. It’s always good to see a player with a smile on his face.”
Dier has made 38 appearances across both domestic and European competitions and grabbed his first goal of the season in Saturday’s win.
The 17-time England international earned rave reviews last season after featuring in a defensive midfield role.
