‘Beale out’, ‘Clueless’ – Sunderland fans want Michael Beale sacked after Newcastle defeat

Sunderland fans on social media want Michael Beale sacked following their 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats suffered a heavy defeat at the Stadium of Light in their first Tyne-Wear derby since 2016.

Daniel Ballard’s own goal just after the half-hour mark opened the scoring before Alexander Isak scored a second-half brace to secure Newcastle’s spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It marked Sunderland’s first derby defeat against Newcastle since August 2011, with the Black Cats winning six of their last nine meetings.

Fans were unhappy with Beale’s approach to the game, with Sunderland managing just two shots on target against their fierce rivals.

Beale has only been in charge at the Stadium of Light for a matter of weeks with the former Rangers boss replacing Tony Mowbray in December.

Beale was sacked at Ibrox after just 10 months in charge of the Glasgow giants.

His contract at Sunderland is set to run until 2026 but he is already facing pressure from the club’s fanbase after a poor run of form.

Sunderland fans on social media labelled the 43-year-old ‘clueless’ after they watched their side’s loss on Saturday.

Beale’s side return to action in the Championship next Saturday (13 January) with a trip to promotion-chasing Ipswich Town.

Following their victory, Newcastle will learn their FA Cup fourth-round opponents on Monday.
