Ben Brereton Diaz issued West Ham warning by pundit after transfer report
Alan Hutton has claimed Ben Brereton Diaz will be a squad player if he joins West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and West Ham defender said the 23-year-old would struggle to get into David Moyes’s side ahead of Gianluca Scamacca.
According to The Sun (24 July), the Hammers are weighing up a move for Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers.
The Chile international currently has one year left on his contract at Ewood Park.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported (26 July) that Scamacca has completed his medical ahead of finalising a move to the London Stadium.
The deal is said to be worth around £30million plus add-ons.
When asked by Football Insider if Brereton Diaz would be a welcome addition as well, Hutton said: “Don’t get me wrong, I think Diaz is a very good player.
“He showed it last season with the goals he scored. But this is a step up this season, can he do it there?
“We’ve seen it with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, he came from Hull, so he has shown that you can do it.
“I think with the amount of money that they’ve just spent on Scamacca, he’ll be coming in as one of the main guys with [Michail] Antonio.

“I think he [Diaz] would firstly become a squad player. And that’s no disrespect to him, I think when you go up the levels it takes time for you to settle in.
“If they do go down that route it would be squad at this moment in time but it will be up to him to try and force his way in to the first team.“
