Ben Chilwell sends Crystal Palace message after ‘vile’ development
Crystal Palace secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-final after defeating Millwall in a game filled with drama and controversy.
A Japhet Tanganga own goal and goals from Daniel Munoz and Eddie Nketiah secured a 3-1 against the Championship side, but a lot of the focus went onto other aspects of the game.
Jean-Philippe Mateta had to be stretchered off the pitch after a horror tackle by Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts in the eighth minute of the game.
The shot-stopper was sent off after kicking the Palace forward in the head with an extremely high boot which led to serious fears about Mateta’s health.
The 27-year-old has since broken his silence on the injury by thanking Palace fans and others for their kind messages while assuring everyone he is “doing well.”
Ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett revealed to Football Insider that Roberts is set for a “five-game ban” for the sickening challenge.

Ben Chilwell is looking forward to what’s next for Crystal Palace
Palace have now reached the final eight in three of the last seven seasons in the FA Cup, which is as many times as in their previous 36 campaigns.
Club stats 2024-25 (all competitions) | Mateta |

Goals | 15 |

The Eagles will be looking to earn themselves a trip to Wembley Stadium by winning their quarter-final fixture, and Chilwell is already looking toward that.
The England international took to Instagram to celebrate the win by saying, “Into the quarters.”

Ben Chilwell was subject to abuse by Millwall fans
The left-back was targeted by the travelling Millwall fans as they chanted “Chelsea rent boy” at him throughout the game.
The vile comments were nowhere near as bad as the sickening “let him die” chant that Mateta was subjected to after his injury, which was something that many football fans were disgusted by.
Former PGMOL chief Hackett exclusively revealed to Football Insider admitted he hopes Palace “take that issue up with them” after it was reported by The Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill that the FA will investigate the abuse Chilwell received
