Ben Chilwell sends message to Chelsea fans after surprise development

Chelsea star Ben Chillwell took to social media to thank fans for their support after their impressive 5-0 League Cup victory over Barrow on Tuesday (September 24).

The 27-year-old replaced Malo Gusto at half-time to make his first appearance for the club since seemingly being frozen out by new manager Enzo Maresca.

Chillwell had been a prominent member of Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ a group of unwanted, high earners the club were keen on shifting over the summer transfer window.

Unlike Raheem Sterling, who finally earned a loan move to London rivals Arsenal, the left-back could not secure a move but has since been reintegrated into the first team.

A hattrick from Christopher Nkunku an unfortunate own-goal from Barrow ‘keeper Paul Farman and a maiden strike from Pedro Neto were enough to see the Premier League side through to the next round.

Ben Chillwell makes Chelsea return

Injuries have severely hampered Chilwell’s Chelsea career, since joining in 2020, he has missed 104 games for club and country across all competitions.

With his future at the club still in doubt, he took to Instagram to thank fans for their support and to let them know how much he misses them.

It’s been an impressive start to life at Chelsea for Maresca, winning three, drawing one, and losing one of their opening five Premier League games.

They next face potential ‘top-four’ dark horses Brighton in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (September 28).
