Ben Foster hits out at selfish Man United star: ‘Rotten to the core’

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster had some choice words to say about one of the Red Devils’ players after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal was enough to give Spurs a 1-0 win over United in Bilbao, and secure Ange Postecoglou’s side their first major trophy in 17 years.

The result means that United end the season trophyless, as well as falling to their worst ever Premier League finish.

Ruben Amorim’s side cannot end the season higher than 14th, and go into the final game of the domestic campaign on just 39 points.

Foster slams United attacker

After the final, Alejandro Garnacho publicly criticised the Man United team selection, with the winger disappointed at only playing 20 minutes off the bench.

The 20-year-old started both semi-final legs against Athletic Club, but Mason Mount was preferred by Amorim for the final.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (22 May), Foster didn’t mince his words when talking about the Argentine, saying: “I don’t care who you play for, you don’t come out and do stuff like that.

“Garnacho doesn’t care about the rest of the team, he’s sitting on the pitch and it’s all about him in that moment.

“It just epitomises everything that’s going on there at the minute, it’s rotten to the core.”

Man United must get rid

Football Insider Verdict

To get back to the top, Man United must have everybody on the same page and fighting towards the cause.

Garnacho has proved in the last few days that he is only out for himself, and to publicly criticise the manager like that is the sign of an extreme ego.

Amorim has to take control of the situation and show that he is the one in charge by getting rid of the winger immediately.

Chelsea have shown interest in Garnacho, and United should be ecstatic that there is someone willing to take the Argentinian off their hands.

The attacker is simply not good enough to get away with disrupting the peace in the Old Trafford dressing room.

Sir Alex Ferguson would never have allowed for this to happen, whoever the player was, especially if it was someone like Garnacho, who has shown nothing to suggest he will fulfill his potential of being a world-class footballer.
