Bent Exclusive: Rarely-seen Leeds talent to have 'Big Impact' in promotion after Twitter reveal

Darren Bent has claimed that Jean-Kevin Augustin can have a “big impact” for Leeds United in the closing stages of the season if he can oust Patrick Bamford from the starting XI.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England hitman suggested that the French striker could still have a part to play in the Whites’ promotion push, but faces an uphill battle to convince the manager that he deserves a nod over his 26-year-old teammate.

United recently shared a video to their official Twitter account of the loanee using the current break in action to get himself back into shape after a stuttering start to his time in England.

And Bent believes that supporters should take the footage as an encouraging sign of what he can do if and when the Championship season resumes.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Listen, he can have a big impact, but at the same time, he’s got to oust Bamford.

“Bamford seems to be in favour, the team’s flying at the minute – for Bielsa, there’s no reason to really change things. I think he likes Bamford, he likes what he does work rate-wise.

“The way they’re going, with five wins in a row and the way they’re playing, I can’t see Augustin getting in the team just yet. He might come off the bench to score important goals which they might need, but as for starting games, he’s still got to wait for Bamford to get out of the team.

“I can’t see it happening for some time yet.”

Augustin arrived at Elland Road on loan from RB Leipzig in January having spent the first half of the campaign with AS Monaco.

The 22-year-old has struggled for game time since joining the Whites, however, and has been limited to just three Championship appearances so far, failing to score in any of them.
