Darren Bent has claimed fans will never see the best of Carlos Vinicius at Tottenham due to the presence of Harry Kane.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has suggested the 25-year-old will never be able to get a good run of games under his belt unless the Lilywhites’ talisman is injured.
The summer signing, who is on a season-long loan from Benfica, has started just twice in his three appearances for Tottenham, while he has been left as an unused substitute for a further two games.
Meanwhile, Kane has scored 12 and chipped in with a further 10 assists in his 13 outings across all competitions.
Bent has insisted any striker would struggle to fill the England striker’s boots but admitted fans will not see Vinicius in full swing if he continues to be used as a bit-part player.
Bent told Football Insider: “That’s the same anybody who tries to come in – unless you try to replace Harry Kane hurricane with someone like Lewandowski or Aubameyang, someone of that level.
“There’s always going to be a drop-off because he‘s that important, he’s that good. I mean he’s been superb. I do like Vinicius, but I don’t think we’re ever going to see the very best of him unless he gets a run of games.
“Now, we all know that while he’s at Spurs and Harry Kane’s playing as well as he is that’s not going to happen but Mourinho has been quite good because he’s rested Harry Kane when he can.
“So, I don’t think Harry Kane will get burned out and I think Harry Kane will appreciate that. Vinicius is a good player, he’s a good backup but he’ll understand his role when he moved to Spurs.”
In other Tottenham news, Bent has named a surprise man among the three best midfielders at Spurs.
