Darren Bent has claimed Leeds United forward Rodrigo will take time to return to full fitness after his period of self-isolation.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and England forward insisted the Spaniard will need time to re-adjust to the intensity of Marcelo Bielsa’s training sessions.
The Whites confirmed last week that Rodrigo had entered a period of isolation after coming into close contact with somebody who tested positive for coronavirus.
He missed the club’s 4-1 defeats to Leicester City and Crystal Palace and was also omitted from the Spain squad for this month’s internationals.
Leeds’ record signing will be in contention for their game against Arsenal on 22nd November, after the international break.
However, Bent has suggested he will not walk back into Bielsa’s side.
He told Football Insider: “You can’t replicate Bielsa’s methods when you’re training alone.
“When he comes back you have to say that he’s going to have to work very, very hard to get himself back fully fit.
“Bielsa’s training methods are very, very intense. It strikes me as something you can’t just walk straight back into and just pick up where you left off – it doesn’t work like that.
“So it’s gonna take him a bit of time to get back to it. I’m sure he’ll be at a good level.
“Everybody wants to be able to play under Bielsa so hopefully he’s back before we know it.”
Rodrigo had started back-to-back Premier League games for Leeds before he was forced into isolation.
He’s scored once in the league since his arrival from Valencia in August.
