Besiktas vice-president Deniz Atalay believes Newcastle United target Cenk Tosun is worth £88million (€100million).
Newcastle have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old striker and it was reported last week that Besiktas had placed a £20million price tag on the forward.
However, it seems Newcastle will now have to pay even more money to get the Turkey international.
“If you ask me Cenk is worth €100 million, he has a very bright future,” Atalay said, as quoted by Turkish-football.
The media outlet also claimed that Newcastle recently sent scouts to watch Tosun in action.
Tosun has scored 11 goals in 19 appearances for Besiktas this season, including four in the Champions League. He scored 24 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for the Super Lig side last season.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle have scored 14 goals in their 15 Premier League games this season and are in desperate need of a striker who knows where the back of the net is. The club’s two main strikers Dwight Gayle and the much-criticised Joselu have both scored two goals this season, the same number as defenders Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles. Frankly, this latest claim from Deniz Atalay is ridiculous as a €100million transfer would make Tosun the world’s fifth most expensive player behind Brazilian superstar Neymar. With the Magpies believed to be unwilling to match an earlier valuation of £20million due to Tosun being unproven in the Premier League, it seems the club’s manager Rafa Benitez will have to turn his attentions elsewhere.
In other Newcastle news, the club must sign this “rock-solid” Championship enforcer in January, according to a report.
