Real Betis are plotting to rival Celtic for the signing of Mohamed Elyounoussi this summer, Football Insider understands.

The La Liga club have joined the race to sign the Norway international winger amid doubts over his future at Southampton.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Betis are exploring a loan move for Elyounoussi, 25, rather than a permanent move at this stage.

There has also been interest in the left-sided winger from another Spanish top-flight side, Real Sociedad.

The Premier League club have previously told Celtic it would take up to 10million to land the winger permanently.

However, that was before the Covid-19 pandemic turned football’s finances upside down and the Hoops may press for a far cheaper deal.

Celtic could do plenty of business with Southampton this summer, as Neil Lennon has also made it clear he is very keen on re-signing Fraser Forster.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Saints have made Ntcham one of their top targets to replace Tottenham and Everton target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.

Elyounoussi ended his loan season at Celtic in the SPFL team of the year.

But he failed to build upon an impressive start, partly due to a foot injury that ruled him out for months.

He scored seven goals and providing six assists in 15 games before breaking down in November.

Elyounoussi subsequently failed to get an extended run of games before the mid-March lockdown.

In other Celtic news, the club have been tipped by insider to sign McGregor’s pal if Elyounoussi deal collapses.
