‘Better late than never’, ‘Quality signing’ - Tottenham fans react on Twitter to confirmed deal

By Derek Smithson

Tottenham have completed the signing of defender Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain – and the club’s supporters are thrilled on Twitter with the deal.

Spurs confirmed on their official website that the 24-year-old has moved to the Premier League and signed a deal which keeps him with the North London club until 2022.

Chairman Daniel Levy is renowned for his last-minute business and Aurier becomes the first player Spurs have snapped up on deadline day.

The right-back is expected to compete for a starting XI role this season alongside Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters, while also experiencing his first taste of English football.

He is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Kyle Walker following his departure to rivals Manchester City this summer.

The Ivory Coast international is renowned for his great pace and athleticism, which should help him occupy the wing-back role effectively.

Spurs fans on social media have hailed the capture of Aurier and are delighted that the deal is finally over the line after long-standing interest.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Aurier has become recognised as one of the most exciting right-backs in European football during his time with PSG, where he won two domestic league titles in France.

The attack-minded full-back managed 15 assists in 81 appearances for PSG and is likely to have several opportunities to push forward in the Spurs system.

Pochettino’s side usually dominate possession in league games and like to push their wing-backs forward into advanced areas.

There have already been question marks over Trippier at the start of the season and Walker-Peters is still a developing talent, which could give Aurier a real chance to force his way into the side.

In other Tottenham transfer news, they have made a big decision on Marcus Edwards on deadline day.
