Betting latest: Celtic in running to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Mignolet

Celtic are third-favourites to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the summer transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

BetVictor have the Hoops priced at 16/1 to snap up Mignolet, 30, while Napoli (4/1) are favourites and Newcastle United (8/1) are the two frontrunners for the Belgium international’s signature.

Mignolet has fell down the pecking order at Liverpool this season with it now seeming that Jurgen Klopp’s No 1 goalkeeper is Loris Karius.

The former Sunderland shot-stopper is, according to the Daily Star, earning £60,000-a-week in his deal at Anfield, but has only made one Premier League appearance in 2018.

Across all competitions this term, Mignolet has played 22 times, keeping seven clean sheets.

He has not played once in the Champions League group stages or knock out rounds and his last outing was in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom at Anfield in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

Celtic could do with changing their goalkeeper options in the summer but someone like Mignolet may be out of their price range. The Hoops’ highest ever spend is still the £6million deals for Chris Sutton and John Hartson so it is unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will smash that to reunite with his former goalkeeper. Scott Bain seems likely to sign for the Bhoys and that will probably be the only goalkeeper addition that will be made this year with Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries also on the books.
