Betting update: Arsenal installed as favourites to sign PSG attacker in January

By Will Butcher

Arsenal are favourites to land Paris Saint-Germain out-of-favour striker Jese in January, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Betting company Ladbrokes have priced the Gunners at 5/1 to sign the 23-year-old Spaniard before the end of the January transfer window on February 3, 2017.

Arsene Wenger’s side are placed ahead of Liverpool and Napoli as the most likely contenders to sign Jese, with Jurgen Klopp’s side at 10/1 and the Serie A giants way out at 16/1.

With doubts surrounding the future of Alexis Sanchez as his contract ends in the summer of 2018, former Real Madrid forward Jese could be on his way to north London in January.

Jese has struggled at PSG since his summer move to the French champions, as he struggles to hold down a regular starting spot in face of competition from the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura.

The uncapped striker has made just two starts for PSG, and could consider jumping ship in January to end his Paris nightmare.

A move to the Emirates Stadium then could be on the cards for PSG’s number 22, who made a 89th-minute cameo appearance against the Gunners in this season’s Champions League group stages.

With the Gunners possessing plenty of competition in the centre-forward department in Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Perez, Jese will be looked at as a winger if he was brought to Arsenal.

He would be thrown in direct competition with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and could provide the difference in Arsenal’s title challenge.
