Betting update: Tottenham way behind PL rivals in odds to win Europa League

By Dominic Toner

Tottenham have been listed as the second favourites to win the Europa League this season.

Spurs are rated at 8/1 by bookmakers Sky Bet to win the competition and English rivals Manchester United are the 9/2 favourites.

Roma (9/1), Zenit and Shakhtar Donetsk (12/1) are also regarded as main challengers for the trophy and the last 32 draw takes place on Monday.

The betting update comes after Spurs qualified for the last 32 of the competition by finishing third in their Champions League group, with Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen ending above them.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side kept their place in Europe with a 3-1 victory against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday and are expected to a mount a real challenge in the Europa League.

Spanish side Sevilla have won the competition for the past two seasons, but they reached the Champions League knockout rounds this time around.

Chelsea were the Europa League winners in the 2013/14 campaign and showed that the competition can bring great success.

The Europa League winners automatically qualify for the Champions League the following season and Spurs will see that as a real incentive.

The north London club are currently fifth-placed in the Premier League table and face a huge battle to reach the top four in a highly competitive season.

Spurs will be focusing on their league campaign in December and travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Untied.

In other Tottenham news, Ray Wilkins has hailed the club’s player as exceptional and described him as vital to Pochettino.
