'Big' Allan Saint-Maximin claim made after '£50m' Newcastle United update - pundit

No club will match Newcastle United’s £50million valuation of Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Frenchman’s future.

According to the Daily Mail (2 April), the Magpies will listen to £50million offers for Saint-Maximin when the transfer window re-opens.

However, speaking in his pre-Wolves press conference (7 April) Eddie Howe insisted the 25-year-old remains part of his long-term plans.

The winger is under contract on Tyneside until the summer of 2026 after signing a long-term deal in December 2020.

McAvennie admits he is a fan of Saint-Maximin and claims he has a “superstar” personality that matches Newcastle’s ambitions.

“Saint-Maximin is one you want to watch,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s got all the talent in the world but he switches off sometimes.

“I really like him. I think he has a big future there. He has that superstar personality that fits with the new owners.

“I also don’t think anyone will offer what Newcastle will be looking for in a transfer fee.

“He’s one of a kind so I’m sure the fans will be happy if he stays. He’s the guy who gets you off your seat.

“Maybe he needs to add a few more goals to his game but that will come.”

Saint-Maximin has scored five goals and provided three assists this season.

He has featured 28 times for the Magpies in the Premier League.
