‘Big blow’ – Spurs Exclusive: Paul Robinson reacts to Lo Celso injury update
Paul Robinson has claimed it would be a “big blow” to Tottenham if Giovani Lo Celso is unavailable for the visit of Manchester United this week.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former White Hart Lane number one stressed the importance of the 24-year-old to Jose Mourinho’s side since he moved into a deep lying midfield position.
Football London claim that the midfielder is a doubt for Friday’s crucial fixture in Spurs’ against Manchester United after picking up a knock in training.
Lo Celso was billed as Christian Eriksen’s successor when he arrived in North London but he was deployed to greater effect in a deep lying role alongside Harry Winks before the break.
The Argentina international has made 28 appearances since signing from Real Betis last summer.
When asked by Football Insider how missed he would be if unavailable, Robinson said:
“It would be a big blow. He has been one of Spurs’ best players since he came into that holding midfield role. Playing as a deep lying midfielder has shown another side to his game.
“I thought he was more of an attacking player but he has showed that he is not afraid to put his foot in and do the hard yards. He has really found his feet.
“Shortly after he joined he got a hip injury on international duty but since then he has got himself fit and is adapting very quickly to English football.
“Quite often it takes players time but he has adapted pretty quickly after the injury and has been hugely important for Spurs.
“He would be a big miss if he is not fit.”
Spurs are currently eighth, seven points off Chelsea and the Champions League qualification spots.
Anything but a win against the Reds Devils would make a top-four spot appear unrealistic this season.
