‘Big’ Giorgi Mamardashvili update as Liverpool team news revealed pre-Man United
Giorgi Mamardashvili will continue to deputise for Liverpool in Alisson’s injury-induced absence against Man United on 19 October.
The Georgian is set to be first-choice for the upcoming fixtures for the Reds with Alisson out with a hamstring injury until at least November.
Sources told Football Insider on 17 October that Liverpool aren’t concerned over Alisson’s absence but he will be reintroduced slowly, especially considering the congested and demanding winter period.
With the Brazilian out of contract at the end of the 2026-27 season, now is an ideal time for Mamardashvili to prove himself to Arne Slot to usurp the number one spot.

Alisson still set to be first choice goalkeeper but Mamardashvili handed golden opportunity to win Arne Slot’s favour
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the ex-Valencia shot stopper has the chance to show why he should be trusted as Liverpool‘s first choice goalkeeper in the future.
At 25-years-old, the number 25 has a long career ahead of him and this brief period covering for Alisson could be pivotal in whether he remains a part of the Reds’ plans.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Liverpool would love to have Alisson fully fit every season for all the season, but injuries are part and parcel of the game.
“That’s why they went out and brought in Mamardashvili as a capable deputy as well and maybe somebody who can push Alisson long-term to become Liverpool’s number one.

“It’s big opportunity now for Mamardashvili in the next few weeks while Alisson’s coming back from injury to try and stake his claim and show that he is good enough to be Liverpool’s number one in the future.
“I don’t think there’s any massive panic within Liverpool, injuries happen. We know Alisson does seem to pick up a few here and there.
“He’s 33 and he’s under contract until 2027. But, if Alisson’s fit, there’s no doubts he still remains Arne Slot’s number one and will play.”
Liverpool defence shaky as Slot works on Andy Robertson contract negotiations
Compared to last season, the Reds’ defence has been nowhere near the same standard despite the summer arrivals.

Injuries are piling up which has led to sources telling Football Insider that Andy Robertson is unlikely to leave Liverpool in January.
However, the Scotsman is in the final year of his deal and could be set to leave Anfield on a free next summer.
The Dutchman sees the ex-Hull City left-back as an integral part of his squad courtesy of his leadership qualities, as talks over a new contract are set to ramp up in the coming months.
