'Big' Nathan Patterson prediction issued by pundit after what he's seen from Everton

Nathan Patterson has a “big” opportunity to make or break his Everton career.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Patterson’s first Premier League appearance.

The 20-year-old was in the starting line-up for Everton’s opening Premier League game against Chelsea.

The Scotland international was afforded the full 90 minutes as his side lost 1-0 to the Blues.

Before the game, Patterson only had 45 minutes for Everton to his name with those coming during his side’s 2021-22 FA Cup campaign.

McLeish now claims Patterson can nail down his position in the Everton starting lineup with a series of more impressive performances over the next few weeks.

“It’s great, at last, to see Frank giving him a shot,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“I thought he played well, he looked really good. I know Everton lost the Chelsea game, we expected that result.

“It’s good to see him getting a wee run-in. It’s great for the Scottish game and for his chances of staying in the national team.

“It just goes to show, I thought he had a really good game. It’s up to him to stay there though. He couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.

“I think we will be seeing more of him. It’s a big season for him.”

Patterson joined Everton in January 2022 after struggling for game time at Rangers.

The Toffees are next in action against Aston Villa on Saturday (13 August).
