Birmingham City fans roast ‘selfish’ Jay Stansfield after what he did vs Millwall

Birmingham City fans are furious with Jay Stansfield on Wednesday as the 10-man side lost to Millwall 3-0.

The loss is a serious blow to the Blues’ playoff hopes, as their eight-match unbeaten run came to an end.

Chris Davies’ side were just simply not good enough at The Dens, with the Lions going 2-0 up after just 31 minutes, before they added another quickly in the second half.

However, it could have been a completely different game if Stansfield had simply squared a golden chance at 0-0 instead of taking a shot.

As a result, Birmingham’s fans were fuming with the 23-year-old striker, as his decision-making proved to be costly.

Birmingham fans fume with Jay Stansfield

Stansfield’s recent form at St Andrews has been poor.

Despite the Blues’ recent good form, the striker has struggled for goals, only netting once in his last 14 Championship matches.

However, he had an excellent chance to put the visitors ahead at 0-0 as Stansfield capitalised on a poor Tristan Crama backpass. However, instead of squaring the ball to August Priske, he fired a shot on goal, which was saved by the Millwall keeper.

This proved to be the wrong decision, as if the forward had played the ball to Priske, it would have almost certainly been a goal.

As a result, many Birmingham fans took to X to slam Stansfield, as his selfishness may now prove costly to their playoff hopes.

How bad was Jay Stansfield vs Millwall?

According to Fotmob on 25 February, Stansfield certainly had a poor match.

The striker only completed five out of nine passes, had just one shot on goal, did not create a single chance, and only managed 19 touches before he was brought off in the second half.

As a result, Stansfield’s place in the starting XI has to be questioned going forward, with his performances on a clear decline.

Despite the result, the Blues are still in an excellent position to get into the playoffs if they are able to bounce back quickly from this result.

However, Davies has to make changes to ensure that this happens, and the removal of Stansfield from the starting XI has to be something the manager seriously considers.
