Birmingham City set sights on Premier League with ‘world-class’ move underway – Kieran Maguire
New owners at Birmingham City are planning to take the club to the Premier League after announcing plans for a new stadium and sports complex.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Birmingham are following in the footsteps of clubs such as Brighton and Brentford.
Birmingham published a club statement last Tuesday (9 April) announcing that new owners – Knighthead – have acquired land to construct a ‘world-class’ sports quarter that includes a new stadium and academy.
The plans have been led by Knighthead Co-CEO and Birmingham Chairman, Tom Wagner, and Chief Executive Officer, Garry Cook.
The new stadium will improve on the current 29,400-capacity of St Andrew’s Stadium and provide the club with a significant boost to their matchday income.

Maguire believes Birmingham’s plans are part of a “broader strategy” to return to the Premier League.
“Birmingham City’s announcement of the new stadium is indicative of owners who appear to have enthusiasm for a strategic repositioning of the club,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It’s part of a much broader strategy to return to the Premier League.
“We’ve seen Brighton and Brentford go to the top flight by having facilities which are attractive to both fans and players as well as enhancing revenue generation.

“While this will not be an instant fix, it will allow the club to make progress going forward.
“More money coming in from the new stadium increases the ability to spend money on the talent which can drive the club forward off the pitch and on the pitch.“
