Blackburn’s Todd Cantwell reacts as ex-Rangers ace joins John Eustace at Derby

Todd Cantwell has sent a message to a former teammate after he linked up with the attacker’s former Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace at Derby County.

After Cantwell fell out with Rangers manager Philippe Clement, he left Ibrox back in the summer transfer window to complete a move to Blackburn.

That saw him being managed by Eustace for several months at the start of this season as the Ewood Park club mounted a push for a place in the Championship play-offs.

But after Eustace was linked with a move to Derby County, the 45-year-old did indeed leave Lancashire to take over the vacant managerial role at Pride Park earlier this month.

Following that move, Eustace’s first signing as manager of the Rams has now brought him into contact with a player Cantwell knows from his time at Rangers.

Todd Cantwell reacts as Kemar Roofe seals Derby County move

Like Cantwell, another player who left Rangers last summer was Kemar Roofe, with the striker departing following the expiration of his contract.

On Thursday (20 February) the 32-year-old secured return to football, by signing for Derby on a deal until the end of this season, meaning he is of course now set to play under Eustace.

Among those to react to that news was Cantwell, with the Blackburn man sharing the announcement of Roofe’s move to his own Instagram story.

The 26-year-old then captioned his post by tagging Roofe, and describing the striker as a “certified bagsman”.

It is a big job that Roofe will have on his hands following his move to Pride Park, as he attempts to help Derby avoid relegation from the Championship.

In the past he has shown himself to be capable of getting goals at that level, so the striker could be a useful asset for Eustace at Pride Park.

Blackburn are set to travel to Derby on Saturday 8 March, so there could be more than one intriguing reunion at that match as Rovers face their former manager, and Cantwell faces his old Rangers teammate.

With plenty set to be at stake for both clubs in that game, all involved will no doubt be keen to get one over on each other.
