Report: Key player set to miss Tottenham v Arsenal clash after scan
Tottenham could already have a slight advantage going into the weekend’s North London derby against Arsenal as Petr Cech is set to miss the game, according to a report.
The Sun states that the Czech Republic international is a doubt for the clash after picking up a calf injury in his side’s 5-1 thumping of Everton.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side can temporarily go into the top four with a win over their fierce rivals until Monday at least when a failing Chelsea play West Bromwich Albion.
Both teams will know that three points are vital at this stage of the season as they battle for the Champions League places.
Victory for the Argentinian will also put clear daylight between them and Arsene Wenger’s side, potentially ending the Gunners hopes of returning to Europe’s elite competition next season.
To be without the experienced Cech will make the match and even tougher prospect for Arsenal who often rely on the 35-year-old’s big match experience.
A scan on Monday to reveal the full extent of the calf issue showed the problem was worse than initially thought.
It will mean that David Ospina will come in as a replacement and the Colombian is often guilty of flapping and making rash decisions.
