Bournemouth: Andoni Iraola contract extension ‘likely’ after ‘Spurs option removed’

AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is likely to sign a new contract to remain at the club despite previous links to the Tottenham job.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Iraola said a decision around his future at Bournemouth is closer to being made.

The Spaniard wants his contract situation to be resolved, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The 43-year-old has spent the past three seasons with the Cherries, and the club will want to continue the progress they have been making under the Spaniard.

Bournemouth can achieve a top ten Premier League finish for the second successive campaign under Iraola this season, with the Cherries currently occupying 10th spot.

Andoni Iraola ‘is going to end up staying at Bournemouth’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Iraola would benefit from remaining at Bournemouth.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, I think there was a lot of talk about Iraola going to Spurs. Now, I think that sort of removed his big option straight away.

“And I do think he’s going to end up staying at Bournemouth. They’ve got the plans for the new stadium as well down there. Training facilities are great. They’ve had success.

“I think it would do him a lot of good to have another couple of years experience with Bournemouth, so it’s likely. The owners are proving to be very good. There’s the multi-club situation coming up there. A lot of positives there.”

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Bournemouth’s plans for the future could entice Iraola to stay at the club.

Bournemouth ready to accept Marcus Tavernier bid

Sources have told Football Insider that Bournemouth will accept an offer for Marcus Tavernier to join Manchester United in the summer.

Other clubs are also interested in agreeing a deal for Tavernier, who Bournemouth would ideally not wish to sell.

Tavernier has been an important player under Iraola, with the 26-year-old having started 26 Premier League games this season, contributing five goals and four assists.
