‘Bournemouth are lucky to be in the Premier League’ – ‘fans won’t like this’
Bournemouth could record their best-ever Premier League finish this season and are still dreaming of European qualification for next term.
The Cherries were only promoted from the Championship in 2022 but have made huge strides under in-demand boss Andoni Iraola.
Off the pitch, chairman Bill Foley has spoken about plans to expand the Vitality Stadium to an initial capacity of 16,000 from just over 11,000.
That initial development would still make Bournemouth‘s ground the smallest in the Premier League – behind Brentford.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has issued a stark warning for Cherries fans despite their stellar season.
‘Bournemouth fans should temper expectations’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted Bournemouth should be “happy to stay in the Premier League every season”.
The Cherries were promoted to the top flight for the first time in 2015 and have spent seven of the subsequent nine seasons in the division.
Wyness claimed a new stadium will help Bournemouth become more ambitious but warned it is not a “quick solution”.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Bournemouth’s owner has impressed me so far.
“Hopefully, he’s got some clever ideas up his sleeve for growth and revenue, but even a new stadium will take years to build.
“It’s not a quick solution.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
6 | Chelsea | 32 | 54 | 17 |
7 | Aston Villa | 32 | 54 | 3 |
8 | Bournemouth | 32 | 48 | 12 |
9 | Fulham | 32 | 48 | 4 |
10 | Brighton | 32 | 48 | 2 |
“Bournemouth have had a great season, but with success comes headaches.
“The reality is, and the fans won’t like it, they should be happy to stay in the Premier League every season.
“They’ve been blessed this season, there’s still dreams of Europe – it’s beyond expectations for a club like Bournemouth.
“They can’t expect it every season. It’s got to be about consolidating in the Premier League, until they can build a new stadium and create new resources.
“Right now, being in the Premier League is a big battle and they’ve got to be thankful.”

Bayern Munich ‘pushing hard’ to land Huijsen
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 April) that Bayern Munich are pushing hard to agree a summer deal for Liverpool and Chelsea target Dean Huijsen.
Huijsen will be available via a £50million release clause in the summer transfer window and the Cherries are powerless to avoid losing him.
Sources say Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle – among others – are keen to land the Spain international this summer.
