Bournemouth could agree multiple Portugese signings after update – Stefan Borson
Bournemouth are on course for a record-breaking season following their strong first half of the campaign under Andoni Iraola.
The Premier League side have made great progress since Bill Foley’s consortium completed its £100million takeover of the club in December 2022.
Auckland, Lorient and Hibernian are also owned or part-owned by the US billionaire.
The Times reported on 30 January Foley is poised to add Portuguese top-flight side Moreirense to his multi-club organisation.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that takeover deal could be a prudent way to tap into the Portuguese market.
Bournemouth are thriving this season and sit seventh in the table, three points behind fourth-place Chelsea after 24 games.
The Dorset club’s highest-ever Premier League finish came back in 2016-17 when they ended the campaign in ninth spot under Eddie Howe.
Bournemouth owners are pumping money into multi-club model
Borson suggested there could be some “cheap” deals available in the Portuguese market as Foley looks to complete his deal for Moreirense.
He told Football Insider: “Portugal is a great landing market for talent.
“We know that some of the best signings into the Premier League have come out of Portugal.
“There are some small clubs there as well, so it can be cheap.
“I think the question would probably be whether players from some of the lesser clubs can make the jump to the Premier League.
“It isn’t quite the same as buying players out of Benfica, Sporting Lisbon or Porto.
“But that is their model. The owners of Bournemouth have got quite a collection of relatively small European clubs in their multi-club model, so I would imagine the investment levels required are probably quite low.
“Is the upside one way? It looks like it could be a prudent way to tap into some of these markets.”
Bournemouth beat West Ham to big-money signing
Bournemouth beat West Ham to the signing of Eli Junior Kroupi in the January window after a £35million fee was agreed for the Loreint forward, who will remain with the French Ligue 2 side until the end of the season.
They also secured deals for young stars Matai Akinmboni, Kai Crampton and Julio Soler throughout the window.

Bournemouth managed to keep hold of all their key players following their impressive first half of the campaign.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Liverpool are monitoring Milos Kerkez’s progess after he’s been a standout performer at the Vitality Stadium this season.
