Bournemouth ‘doing everything’ to stop Andoni Iraola joining Man United

Bournemouth have no plans to let Andoni Iraola leave the club any time soon amid concerns he could be tempted to jump ship for Man United.

The boss has just 12 months remaining on his contract as things stand at the Vitality Stadium, and Man United are keeping an eye on Iraola’s situation.

However, Football Insider revealed in May that Bournemouth are confident Iraola will sign a new deal and commit his long-term future to the club.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Cherries are doing everything they can behind-the-scenes to convince him to sign.

Sources say the Man United job remains an attractive prospect, but Bournemouth are now making efforts to deter their interest in the Spaniard.

Bournemouth working to agree Andoni Iraola deal

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Bournemouth want Iraola to sign a new deal and are making efforts to reach an agreement.

While no formal agreement has been reached yet, there is a confidence at the Vitality that the boss is happy and keen to remain on the south coast.

Man United, meanwhile, are sticking with Ruben Amorim as things stand and remain fully behind him despite having begun assessing potential alternatives.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think obviously if Man United do decide to part ways with Amorim, they’re going to look for the best man for the job.

“The Manchester United job will still be attractive, whatever their current situation, still a huge club, huge fan base and obviously there has been financial backing in the transfer market as well for managers.

“Iraola has done a remarkable job of Bournemouth, because he lost most of his top players this summer, but still really flourishing at Bournemouth.

“Obviously, Bournemouth are looking to tie him down to a new contract.

“They’re doing everything they can to agree terms and convince him to stay, because they don’t want to lose him, especially to a Premier League rival even if it is Man United.

“But look for United right now, they’re still remaining fully behind Amorim and they hope that he can turn things around.”

Man United’s stance on their current boss will provide some respite for Bournemouth while they push forward with plans to secure Iraola’s future.

Man United make Ruben Amorim sack decision

United have begun identifying potential new managers amid growing pressure on Amorim’s position after another dismal start to the season.

Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Man United are not planning to sack Amorim despite ongoing pressure on his position at Old Trafford.

There is recognition that results have not been good enough, but the club hierarchy are keen to stick with the man they pushed to bring in just 10 months ago.

However, following the Manchester derby defeat against Man City, the Portuguese now has the worst win percentage of any United boss post-World War II.

Meanwhile, Man United players have been backed to turn on Amorim as pressure continues to build on the manager’s position both inside and outside of Old Trafford.
