‘Bournemouth lay groundwork to sign multiple Brazil stars after confirmed news’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the deal to buy Moreirense will open the Brazil and Portugal markets up to Bournemouth.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Cherries could benefit from tapping into “undeveloped talent” from both countries.
As per The Times (30 January), Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is poised to add Portuguese top-flight side Moreirense to his multi-club organisation.
Auckland, Lorient and Hibernian are also owned or part-owned by the US billionaire, who took over the Cherries in 2022.
Bournemouth are thriving in the Premier League this season and sit seventh in the table after 24 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
That form has alerted England’s top clubs, with former Man United chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider (3 February) that Liverpool are continuing to monitor the progress of left-back Milos Kerkez.
Wyness hails Bournemouth move into Brazil and Portugal markets
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’ve got a share in Hibs now as well, which is exciting.
“I think this Portuguese deal is particularly good as it will open up the Brazillian market as well.
“I think bringing talent across from Brazil into Portugal and settling them in with the same language will make a big difference.
“It’s something I looked at over the years to try and get that benefit.
“It won’t be just the Portugal market, it will open up Brazil as well.
“The beaches of Bournemouth aren’t that far from the Copacabana, so you can sell that to the Brazilians as well.

“It’s a very interesting multi-club situation. There’s still a lot of undeveloped talent in that area, and I’ve been looking a lot at that market with a number of clubs.
“A base in Portugal will allow you to start bringing them into the European game.”
