Bournemouth receive apology as ‘Liverpool to sign Antoine Semenyo for £45m’
Antoine Semenyo has been backed to move to Liverpool this summer for a value well short of what Bournemouth are thought to want for him.
The 25-year-old has been in brilliant form for the Cherries this season, notching seven goals and four assists in 28 appearances, with the team breaking into the top half of the Premier League table.
Football Insider understands that Newcastle United have made Semenyo their top target for the summer, but Arne Slot’s Liverpool side are one of the latest teams to join the race for the star’s signature.
According to The Sun [30 March], Andoni Iraola‘s side have now slapped a £75million transfer fee on the winger ahead of the summer transfer window to ward off other Premier League clubs.
However, Jeff Stelling does not believe this will deter Liverpool from securing the player’s signature once the 2024/25 campaign comes to a close, offering his condolences to those at the Vitality Stadium.
Liverpool to steal Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in bargain deal
Speaking via talkSPORT [1 April], Stelling said: “I really apologise, Bournemouth fans, but Antoine Semenyo could go to Liverpool as well.”
Ally McCoist added: “I love him. I really like him. You never really know what he’s going to do because I don’t think he really knows himself sometimes.”
Stelling continued: “He’s a nightmare to play against. One thing is that Bournemouth are talking about £75m – I’m not having that. If I were Liverpool, I’d be thinking about £45m, something like that.”
Bournemouth exits could trigger Andoni Iraola to leave Vitality Stadium
Football Insider verdict
Considering how well the Cherries are doing this season, challenging for a European spot in the Premier League and only narrowly losing to Man City in the FA Cup, it would not be a surprise to see multiple big-name exits.
Semenyo is not the only star being linked with several clubs, with Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez also expected to depart the Vitality Stadium this summer, and there could be further bad news.
Premier League standings | Points |
5. Man City | 48 |
6. Newcastle | 47 |
7. Brighton | 47 |
8. Fulham | 45 |
9. Aston Villa | 45 |
10. Bournemouth | 44 |
Iraola has proven his abilities in the Premier League this season, beating the likes of Man City, Tottenham and Newcastle, and that has certainly raised eyebrows across Europe.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Iraola is in pole position to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, and while the North London club have faltered this season, his appointment could definitely turn things around.
If his current bosses are happy to allow multiple of his biggest stars to leave the south coast this summer, and European football has not been secured, it would not be surprising to see the Spaniard follow them out the exit doors.
