Sources: Club make move to re-sign Newcastle star as another deal all but done

Bournemouth have made a fresh move to re-sign Matt Ritchie during talks over Graeme Jones’ imminent move to Newcastle United, Football Insider has learned.

This site broke the news last Friday morning that the north-east giants were closing in on a landmark hire and terms have now been agreed for Jones to join Steve Bruce’s coaching staff.

Newcastle sources have told Football Insider that Bournemouth have asked about Ritchie as discussions are finalised over Jones heading from the Championship club to the north-east.

The Premier League outfit are set to make a severance payment to Bournemouth for Jones’ services.

This comes after the Cherries have permission for Jones, 50, to discuss terms with Newcastle and finalise a move that has been in the offing for many weeks.

Bournemouth have been keen on a reunion with Ritchie for some time.

A potential deal for the versatile left footer, 31, was discussed last summer during Callum Wilson talks.

Newcastle had initially offered Ritchie plus cash in a bid to land Wilson ahead of their top-flight rivals including Aston Villa.

But they finally sealed the deal independent of Ritchie, who remained at St James’ Park.

He is a key member of Bruce’s squad but has been an unused substitute in Newcastle’s last two Premier League matches.

The Scotland international has made six league starts among 11 appearances in all competitions in a campaign in which he missed a big chunk with a shoulder problem.

Richie has played 159 times for Newcastle since signing from Bournemouth in the summer of 2016 for £11m.
