‘Bournemouth shut down Antoine Semenyo transfer as forward wants Tottenham move’

Bournemouth’s hefty valuation of Antoine Semenyo has put Tottenham off a move to sign him despite his desire to join the North London outfit this summer.

Tottenham have moved to hire Thomas Frank as their new boss in recent weeks, after Football Insider revealed on 1 June that chairman Daniel Levy was set to relieve Ange Postecoglou of his duties as manager, and the club officially announced his departure five days later.

The North London club are now entering a new era under the former Brentford head-coach, and it promises to be a busy summer with Mathys Tel already back after signing permanently from Bayern Munich following his recent loan spell.

Frank will undoubtedly want to continue bolstering Spurs’ forward options this summer, with their injury issues and lack of depth playing a huge part in their poor league form last term, which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League.

Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has been mooted to follow Frank to Spurs, but they are also targeting other attackers in the transfer market to try and boost their chances of success next season.

Tottenham and Man United eye Semenyo

Tottenham’s search for new faces in their attack has led them to explore a move for Bournemouth man Semenyo, who netted 11 goals in the Premier League last season.

Ex-Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on earlier in June that Tottenham will step up their move for Semenyo in the coming weeks, while Football Insider also recently revealed that Bournemouth had put a valuation of £70million on his services in the face of Spurs’ interest.

The Athletic have now reported that Tottenham have made an enquiry to Bournemouth about Semenyo, but are not proceeding with a move for his services as it stands due to the Cherries’ steep asking price.

Semenyo is believed to be attracted by the prospect of joining Frank’s side, according to their report, but his hefty valuation has deterred further interest from Spurs in the short term, as well as from Man United.

Spurs should pursue Semenyo’s signature despite high price-tag

Football Insider verdict

Tottenham’s scoring record was not too bad last season, and their 64 league strikes made them the most prolific side in the bottom-half of the Premier League, but Brennan Johnson was surprisingly their only player to notch double figures for league goals with 11.

They are in clear need of new additions up-front, with Football Insider recently revealing that Spurs are set to accept offers of £25m for Son Heung-min this summer, while Richarlison has been linked with a return to Everton after struggling to make an impact in North London.

Semenyo is the exact kind of forward that they need to give them a much better chance of success on both domestic and European fronts next term, as he is versatile, quick and prolific at scoring, and so should be a hit for Spurs if he joins soon.

Semenyo’s Bournemouth career stats

They need to act fast regardless of his price-tag, with Football Insider reporting in April that Liverpool had joined the race for Semenyo alongside the likes of Man United, Newcastle and Spurs.

Tottenham have made a habit of poaching top players from Premier League clubs with less spending power in recent years, with the likes of James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Johnson signed from Leicester City, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest in the last two summer windows.

It seems a no-brainer to continue those kinds of transfers with the capture of Semenyo, and they must try to find common ground with Bournemouth over his valuation, especially with the 25-year-old thought to be open to a move to North London.
