34-time England international wants move to boyhood club West Ham – report

By Harvey Byrne

Boyhood West Ham fan and current Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is hoping to persuade the Hammers into making a January move for him, according to a report.

The Daily Star have claimed via their website that the 25-year-old, who has played just once for the Gunners first team in the Europa League this season is keen on a departure away from the Emirates.

A move across to east London is detailed to be his favoured destination, but West Ham are also claimed to have been put off by Arsenal’s £20million asking price in the summer due to his injury record.

The 34-time capped England international was once thought of as the country’s brightest young talents.

However, repeated injuries have had a heavy impact on his career to date and after moving out on loan to Bournemouth in the last campaign a calfbone injury brought an early end to his season.

Wilshere has also entered the final year of his contract at Arsenal and there doesn’t look to be any signs of an extension offered.

Football Insider verdict:

West Ham are certainly in much need for a quality central midfielder in their ranks and the only reason Wilshere is being allowed out of Arsenal is due to his injury record, rather than question marks over his ability. The player made a good impact at Bournemouth in the last campaign and they were playing at a similar level to where West Ham currently are. Therefore, a move for Wilshere could prove a very smart one by the Hammers. But, they must also be careful they don’t add another Andy Carroll to their ranks given Wilshere’s injury record.

In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers jetted out to watch this 26-year-old in a Euro giants clash.
