Brandon Austin sends message to fans after Tottenham ‘surprise’

Brandon Austin has sent Tottenham fans a message after he made his debut for the club in their recent Premier League outing against Newcastle.

Spurs came up short against Eddie Howe’s side in a controversial game, with Newcastle winning 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Injuries to Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and back-up Fraser Forster opened up a surprise opportunity for Austin to play against the Magpies.

While he was unable to keep a clean sheet, it was a performance that left James Maddison proud as he sent the 25-year-old a message of support.

Austin has been at the north London club for the last 17 years, but he had never been given an opportunity to play until this past Saturday.

The American reflected on the situation by posting on Instagram where he said, “Not the result we wanted but we will keep working.

“Nevertheless, a proud day for me personally. Thank you for all your support.”

Brandon Austin could drop down the Tottenham pecking order

Even though Postecoglou gave Austin a run out against the Magpies, he could end up finding himself back down the pecking order moving forward.

Spurs have signed 21-year-old Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in a £12.5million deal this weekend.

It remains to be seen if he will be slotted straight into the starting lineup for Spurs or if they will continue to stick with Austin.
