Everton’s new Director of Football Marcel Brands has explained that youngster Ademola Lookman has to feature in the first-team plans of manager Marco Silva.
The 20-year-old attacker was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig in the second-half of the 2017/18 season, where he made quite the name for himself int he Bundesliga.
He scored five goals and supplied four assists in just 11 appearances for the German club, despite spending the first half of the campaign on the fringes of the Toffees starting XI.
“I can be clear in that because I know the player very well. He was on my list at PSV (to sign). He is a very talented young player and I think he has to be moved up next year (to the first team squad),” Brands said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
Football Insider verdict:
Lookman teared it up in the German top flight this season and fully deserves a proper crack in the Everton first team moving forward. The left-winger has incredible pace and trickery, something that supporters at Goodison Park are desperate to see more of. He is yet to really show his true potential in a blue shirt, but he is such a raw talent at the age of 20 and is going to be inconsistent at times. There is no doubt that Lookman could be a real success in the Premier League under Silva and fits perfectly into his attacking style of play. The support of Brands should give the England Under-21 international a major lift and he is definitely a wonderkid to keep an eye out for in the coming months. Everton were lacking penetration and pace in the final third under Sam Allardyce and fortunately for them you don’t have to go out to splash money on a new wide man when they can simply promote a rising star.
In other Everton news, they must abandon their £40m pursuit and turn their attention to a Championship flyer.
