Branthwaite and Coady react as Everton issue major player update

Everton have issued a new update on the future of one of their first-team stars, prompting reactions from the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Conor Coady.

It is set to be a busy summer for the Toffees, as they move into their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock, while they also have plenty of work to do within their squad as well.

Going into the summer, Everton found themselves with just 14 senior players under contract, leaving them with plenty of deals to agree to ensure they will be competitive in the Premier League next season.

Now though, it has been confirmed that manager David Moyes will once again be able to turn to his long serving captain in the coming campaign.

Seamus Coleman signs new contract

Going into the summer, Seamus Coleman was due to see his contract with the Toffees expire, following 16 years with the club.

Earlier this year, Football Insider reported that Everton were planning to hand a new deal to Coleman, and that agreement has now been reached.

On Friday (27 June), it was announced that the right-back has signed a new one-year deal that will keep him on Merseyside until this time next year.

Branthwaite is also expected to sign a new contract with Everton soon, and he seems pleased that he will still have the 36-year-old in the squad with him next season.

The centre-back was among those to quickly like the club’s Instagram post officially announcing Coleman’s extended deal.

Other Everton stars such as Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam, along with former Toffees defender Coady, also did the same.

Football Insider Verdict

Coleman found his game time limited last season amid a number of problems with injury, but keeping him at the club may still be helpful for Moyes.

Everton are apparently eyeing up at least ten signings in what remains of the transfer window, and it will take some work to integrate those into the squad.

As a result, they will need leaders such as Coleman to help with that, and his experience will set a good example to the new arrivals.

Having given so much to the club over the years, this is going to be a popular move with fans as well, meaning this looks like being a safe and sensible move by Everton.
