Branthwaite & Michael Keane transfer updates after Everton deal agreed – sources

Everton are signing defender Jake O’Brien to play alongside Jarrad Branthwaite and not to replace him, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed (July 28) that the Lyon centre-back is set to undergo an Everton medical on Monday after their £20million offer was accepted.

The club are now more likely to sell Michael Keane, 31 before the window shuts after agreeing to sign O’Brien.

Football Insider also revealed (July 19) that Keane could push to leave Everton this summer after falling further down the pecking order.

The Merseyside club are now confident of keeping Branthwaite at the club following the sales of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa and Ben Godfrey to Atalanta.

Man United have had a series of bids rejected for the Goodison centre-back after failing to come close to matching Everton’s £75-85m asking price.

O’Brien joined Lyon club from Crystal Palace last year and has gone on to make 27 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring four goals.

The Republic of Ireland international has now made 35 appearances in all competitions for the French club as they came back from a difficult start to the season to finish 6th.

Branthwaite had a breakout season for Everton following his loan spell at PSV making 41 appearances and scoring three goals.

The English defender narrowly missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 and has been heavily linked with a move to Man United.

Football Insider had revealed (July 8) that Branthwaite had agreed personal terms with Man United but the two clubs were nowhere near to agreeing on a fee.
