Rodgers confirms interest in Celtic star, admits ace could leave in January
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Moussa Dembele is not the same player he was before his head was turned by Premier League interest.
Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by the Daily Record, the former Liverpool manager stated that there has been confirmed interest in Dembele,
“There has been nothing official as yet. I know some enquiries have come through to Peter [Lawwell, chief executive] but nothing concrete.”
Dembele’s form has dropped since last year, leading to the young Frenchman having to get used to life on the sidelines.
The 21-year-old scored 32 goals in all competitions last term, leading to a number of Premier League clubs enquiring about his availability.
Rodgers appreciates that this time period is a tricky one for young players, and understands his personal role in the Club,
“He is a good kid and for a lot of players January is a difficult window – lots of speculation – but my job is always to protect the club and make sure that everyone who plays is totally focused.
Rodgers does add that he is concerned over dembele however, as the 21-year-old has been struggling at Celtic Park recently,
“We will see what happens between now and the end of the month and will take it from there,
“It is clear that he has probably not been quite the same as what he has been for probably over a year or so.”
Demebele has eight goals this season, which seems a complete contradiction to his mesmerising season last year.
Should the talented striker want amove away from the Scottish Premier League, he will have to get his head down, and replicate thi success he has had in season past.
