Confirmed: Celtic to offload players in January, Rodgers details situation of senior duo
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes that the recent signing of Marvin Compper won’t affect the futures of senior duo Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic.
The pair were mainstays at the centre of defence as the Hoops clinched their the domestic treble last term and their first undefeated league season since the 1890s.
This season has been a different story though, as both players have struggled with form and injury, with Simunovic currently kept out of the side by Norwegian teenager Kristoffer Ajer.
The signing of Compper from Leipzig looks like an attempt by Brendan Rodgers to help shore up the defensive issue, which were most recently prominent in the 4-0 defeat to Hearts.
But as quoted by the Scottish Sun, the Hoops manager has confirmed that players will be offloaded in January but doesn’t believe that Compper’s arrival will affect the futures of existing centre-backs Simunovic and Boyata.
“I’ve got very good players here. Some of them will move on in January because they’ll want to play more games,” he said.

“I wouldn’t have thought Dedryck or Jozo would move on.”
The Hoops moved eight points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership after defeating the Dons 3-0 at Celtic Park on Saturday, the defensive partnership was Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata.
With only two games left between now and the winter break – an away trip to Dundee and a Glasgow derby against Rangers – that may well be the partnership used at the back by Brendan Rodgers until Compper arrives at the club on the 1st of January.
