Brendan Rodgers could explode after update on three late Celtic exits – Wyness

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Brendan Rodgers will be fuming with the Celtic board if any more of his star players are sold.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Hoops boss should have been more heavily backed in the summer window by the club board.

Football Insider revealed on 27 August that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep the remainder of his squad together after Matt O’Riley’s exit.

Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kyogo Furuhashi have all been linked with moves away from Parkhead before the transfer deadline on Friday (30 August).

All three players have played a key role for Celtic in their recent dominance over Rangers in league and cup competitions.

Rodgers ‘would be very unhappy’ with any more Celtic sales, says Wyness

Wyness insisted Rodgers will be pushing to strengthen before the deadline, not weaken his squad.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “If they lose any more, I think Brendan will have a lot to say about it in the media.

“That would be the big issue.

“Celtic should’ve backed him better.

“Players may want to go further than Scottish football, and their agents may be putting them in the shop window – but Brendan would be very unhappy to lose any more right now.

“He will actually be pushing to strengthen the squad in the last couple of days, not weaken it.

“But the board may be happy to take the money, that seems to be the Celtic way.”
