‘We will assess it’ – Brendan Rodgers hints at which area Celtic may strengthen next
By Danny Wright
Brendan Rodgers has hinted that he may look to bolster Celtic’s strike-force during this summer’s transfer window.
The Hoops endured a goalless draw with Rosenborg in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they had to make do without strikers Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths.
Former Fulham striker Dembele was ruled out of the Parkhead stalemate through injury while Scotland international Griffiths was sidelined through suspension.
Traditional winger Scott Sinclair was forced to fill the void up front on Thursday, but the Bhoys’ frustration in front of goal highlighted a major flaw in their squad as they failed to find a breakthrough against a Rosernborg side that they really should be beating.
Rodgers has now suggested that he might have to bring in a new third striker option.
“The two we have coped well right the way through the [last] season and we had other solutions to that last year,” said Rodgers on his need for another option up front in a video on Sky Sports Scotland’s official Twitter account.
“We will assess it, if we don’t think we’ll get the response from Leigh and then we might have to take a look at it.
“It’s something that we will monitor and assess.”
Celtic will be looking to defend a treble of titles when the domestic season kicks off next month.
The Hoops have not lost a game against Scottish opponents while Rodgers has been in charge, but they have still managed to add to what is already a strong squad this summer.
Jonny Hayes, Kundai Benyu and Olivier Ntcham have all been recruited by the Hoops, who will now be desperate to score an away goal in Norway next week in the second leg versus Rosenborg.
