The intriguing team selected by Brendan Rodgers in Celtic’s 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock deserves to be the subject which is most discussed by Hoops fans this week.
Two players were chosen to make their full team debuts, Charly Musonda and Jack Henry, whilst Jozo Simunovic and Odsonne Edouard were dropped from the side which defeated Hearts 3-1.
It was understandable why Simunovic was dropped, as he is usually left out when the Hoops play teams with artificial surfaces.
However, the dropping of 2017 signing Edouard seemed like a mistake before the game, and that’s what it turned out to be.
Rodgers broke the Dembele-Edouard partnership after one game, and played Musonda instead with Dembele up-front on his own.
If the manager waned to pick a lone striker for the game it should have been Edouard, who is currently in better form than Dembele.
And so it proved that the team selection was a mistake, as Dembele had one of his worst ever games for the Bhoys and Edouard was thrown in late in the game to try and find an equaliser.
For the next game the Celts have, the Scottish Cup match against Partick Thistle, Rodgers must either play Edouard as a lone-striker or in a partnership with Dembele, he’s too good to be not to be staring game at the moment.
