Rodgers must make decision on Celtic fringe duo for clash v Morton and axe senior player

COMMENT
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers must go into the Hoops’ upcoming fixtures as if right-back Mikael Lustig is suspended for the upcoming Old Firm derby.
Therefore, he must decide on whether to start the fringe duo of Cristian Gamboa or Anthony Ralston in the Bhoys’ next match, which is scheduled to be against Morton in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, weather permitting.
Lustig was originally meant to be suspended for the Hoops’ match against Dundee on Wednesday night, but as that match was postponed it is not yet known if it will be rescheduled before the Old Firm derby on Sunday week.
The Swede’s recent poor performances could have saw him ruled of the derby anyway, but preparation should be made that he won’t be available against Rangers and the senior player should be axed from the starting line-up against Morton.
It seems likely that Ralston will be selected as Lustig’s replacement, the 19-year-old might be just back from a knee injury but he seems more in favour than Gamboa, who hasn’t played since October.
Ralston has played against PSG in the Champions League group stages, so he won’t be phased by playing in the Old Firm clash.
Not only would playing Ralston from now on give him a chance to establish himself this season, but it could cement his place in the side for years to come, as Lustig’s best days seem in the past.
