Rodgers details double Celtic injury boost, attacker could be back within weeks
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has disclosed the latest news on when Tom Rogic and Patrick Roberts will make their return to the Hoops squad.
Roberts has been out with a hamstring injury since November, while Rogic has a long-term knee injury.
However, Rodgers is confident that both players will make their return to the first-team squad in the next month with attacker Rogic expected to come back first, possibly within a few weeks.
“Pat’s timeline was the end of February. We were told three months. He’s here and doing straight line running and February remains the aim. If it’s earlier than that then great” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We’re waiting to see what’s Tom’s reaction is and we’ll see where he’s at by the end of January.
“We hope we can get them back soon.”
Rogic and Roberts made a huge impact as the Hoops won their first domestic treble since since 2001 last season.
Roberts scored double figures and was arguably the Bhoys’ best player in the last weeks of the season, whilst Rogic scored the injury-time winner against Aberdeen which won the Scottish Cup and clinched the treble.
This season has been a different story as both players have struggled with injury and indifferent form. They have had good moments though, with attacking midfielder Rogic opening the scoring in the 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox and Roberts scoring in Celtic’s lone Champions League group stage victory against Anderlecht.
The return of both players would be a timely addition to a Hoops team which has looked jaded at times after playing non-stop since July.
The Hoops are next in action against Brechin in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, a match which will come too early for the pair of Roberts and Rogic.
