Rodgers confirms Celtic eying deal for explosive striker from Euro giants
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has claimed that hat-trick hero Odsonne Edouard could sign a permanent deal at Celtic Park.
The 19-year-old, who was the star of yesterday’s 5-1 win over Motherwell, is on a loan deal until the end of the season from PSG, which has a release clause at the end of the season.
Rodgers, talking to the Daily Record, was so impressed by the Frenchman’s performance yesterday that he claimed a deal could be done at the end of the season to keep the player at Celtic.
He said: “He put in a complete performance. Odsonne’s a big talent who has been unfortunate not to have had more game time.
“And it was as good a display as you’ll see from a young player at that age. He had everything. You can see the quality he has and there’s the possibility to sign him at the end of the loan.”
The form of Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths has meant that Edouard’s game time has been limited, but he was explosive given his chance and the hat-trick has caught everyone’s attention.

Football Insider verdict: Odsonne Edouard’s performance yesterday displayed his talent for all to see. The player has had to wait for game time, but he gives Celtic a great option as third striker. With it seemingly likely that Moussa Dembele will leave Celtic in the summer, Edouard could be the natural replacement. The transfer fee wouldn’t be an issue, as Celtic should receive a big fee for Dembele, which could be used to fund Edouard’s permanent deal. His career trajectory may be similar to Dembele’s – score in Scotland, then impress in the Champions League, then earn a massive move to the English Premier League. That’s what Celtic’s transfer policy is these days and Edouard – if he wants to stay in Glasgow – is an ideal candidate to be Celtic’s next striker.
