‘Brendan Rodgers sets sights on five summer signings at Celtic’

Brendan Rodgers’ future at Celtic is uncertain with just one year left to run on his contract at Parkhead.

Football Insider revealed last week (3 April) that Rodgers wants “huge” transfer backing this summer to take his Hoops squad further in the 2025-26 campaign.

The 52-year-old took aim at his players after the 1-0 defeat against St Johnstone on Sunday (6 April) – suggesting he wants to change his squad’s “mentality” in the off-season.

He said: “There’s maybe a few that are comfortable. When you’re comfortable, you become a bit timid, you lose duels and you lose the fight. You can never be that if you want to be a top player.”

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Rodgers’ ambitions for Celtic in the Champions League will drive summer recruitment.

Rodgers will ‘battle’ Celtic board for new arrivals, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Rodgers will want up to five new signings in the off-season.

Celtic were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich at the knockout play-off round earlier this year.

The Hoops are on course to win a domestic treble this season despite losing three of their last six league games.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Brendan will definitely want to be aggressive this summer, every manager wants that.

“I’ve never had a manager work for me who isn’t two players short of what he wants. No matter what you give them, they always want at least two more.

“Brendan will, in this case, want another three, four, or even five – given the Champions League and the levels they want to be at.

“So it will be that usual battle.”

Celtic could sign Callum McGregor replacement for ‘£3m’

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 31 March that Rodgers has identified Augsburg midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj as an ideal successor to Callum McGregor at Celtic.

Celtic are likely to succeed with a cut-price bid of roughly £3–3.5million for the Kosovo international.

Central midfield will be one of Celtic’s priority positions in need of strengthening this summer with long-time captain McGregor turning 32 in June.
