Brendan Rodgers to Wolves? Premier League return expected after shock Celtic exit

Brendan Rodgers made the shock decision to quit Celtic on 27 October amid ongoing disagreements with the board and growing concerns about their direction.

Rodgers’ oversaw a 3-1 defeat to Hearts in what turned out to be his final game as Celtic boss, as his side dropped eight points behind the league leaders.

The manager’s resignation came just days after Football Insider revealed on 21 October that Rodgers was likely to quit Celtic amid a backdrop of fan protests.

Rodgers’ contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but clashes with the board over transfer policy accelerated his eventual decision to walk away.

As a result, speculation has already begun about where the manager could go next, after Football Insider revealed Rodgers could return to the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers unlikely to accept Wolves job after Celtic exit

Football Insider revealed that Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Rodgers in case he became available, and the Wolves job is likely to be the next available post.

However, the boss is expected to have second thoughts over a move to Molineux which would see him leap “out of the frying pan and into the fire” given their situation.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the boss is more likely to have his sights set on a move elsewhere.

The question about Rodgers now is, where would he go?” he told Football Insider.

There’s been a lot of talk about a move back to the Premier League, but then you have to consider which jobs would be available for him.

“Wolves looks like the next one that’s likely to come up, but would Rodgers take that job?

“It would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, going from Celtic to Wolves, given the situation they’re in at the moment.

“They’re at the bottom of the table, haven’t won a game, the fans aren’t happy and they’re at real risk of dropping down to the Championship.

“So I doubt very much that Rodgers would want to step into that situation.

“It will be one to keep an eye on, but I don’t expect Wolves to be his destination, so he’ll be looking maybe if there was another job in the Premier League which came up.”

Football Insider revealed on 27 October that Pereira has three games to save his job at Wolves and will be given until the international break to turn things around.

Vitor Pereira at growing risk of being sacked by Wolves

Wolves lost 3-2 to Burnley at Molineux on 26 October, raising pressure on Vitor Pereira’s job amid a growing expectation that he could soon be dismissed.

Following the game, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Wolves’ ownership are assessing Pereira’s position after a Chinese delegation jetted in for the game.

They are still winless in the Premier League after nine games played, and are in danger of being cut off after the gap extended to six points from safety.

Their next Premier League game comes as they face Fulham at Craven Cottage, and another defeat would see them cut further adrift at the bottom of the table.

As a result, there have been questions about which manager, whether it would be Rodgers or anybody else, would be willing to step into that situation.
