Brendan Rodgers to Wolves? Top source reacts to dramatic development

Brendan Rodgers is now on the search for a new job after his dramatic departure from Celtic.

Rodgers dramatically quit his role as Celtic boss on Monday (27 October) evening, amid rumours of a behind-the-scenes fallout.

Following his exit, the Northern Irishman was slammed by club owner Dermot Desmond in an explosive public statement, confirming the unrest between the pair.

On Tuesday (28 October), Football Insider revealed that Rodgers is now keen on a return to the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers linked with Wolves

With Vitor Pereira’s future uncertain, Rodgers has been linked to the managerial position at Wolves.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it is possible that the 52-year-old could make a move to one of the sides at the bottom of the Premier League.

However, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Wolves doesn’t feel like the right fit for Rodgers.

Wyness added that the former Liverpool boss could instead take some time out after a turbulent final few months at Celtic.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “You’ve got to be looking at somewhere like Wolves as a potential situation that may crop up. Obviously, those clubs that are at the bottom of the table. It’s possible.

“There’s nothing that strikes me immediately as a Brendan Rodgers shoe-in, though. So he may have to wait. Brendan may take some time out as well.

“Look, this decision has been coming. We’ve been talking about this for weeks now about Brendan’s unhappiness. He claims he wasn’t backed in the summer. Celtic say he was offered to be backed. The truth probably lies somewhere in between the two.”

Vitor Pereira on the edge of sack at Wolves

Meanwhile, Wolves will sack manager Pereira if their gap to Premier League survival grows any bigger, sources have told Football Insider.

Wolves’ 3-2 defeat to Burnley on Sunday (26 October) means they are now six points adrift of Fulham in 17th.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Pereira is likely to be given until the international break to save his job.

Sources say that if the Midlands side drop any further away from safety in that time, then the hierarchy will be forced to make a decision on the Portuguese manager’s future.
