Brenden Aaronson: Major update on £25m flop returning to Leeds United – sources

Brenden Aaronson will not be part of the Leeds United squad next season and could be loaned out again, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old chose to leave for Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin on a temporary deal following relegation from the Premier League last year (2023).

But the midfielder is unlikely to remain with Union into the 2024-25 campaign and will return to Leeds in the off-season.

Current Whites boss Daniel Farke has no place in his side for the United States international – whether Leeds are in the Premier League or Championship.

Aaronson, Max Wober, Jack Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca all left the Whites on loan following relegation – and it is believed those players will cause financial problems at the club if they are not promoted.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leeds will be desperate to sell those players if they can’t achieve a Premier League return – but another round of loan moves are a more likely outcome.

Aaronson joined the Yorkshire giants in 2022 for a reported fee of almost £25million but failed to make an impact in the Premier League – plummeting his value.

He has made 33 appearances across all competitions for Union this season (including six in the Champions League), scoring twice.

However, just 11 of those outings have come as part of the starting lineup.

Aaronson is under contract at Elland Road until June 2027.
