Brennan Johnson responds to Mathys Tel as ‘Tottenham transfer stance revealed’

Mathys Tel continues to enjoy regular minutes on the pitch despite jetting away from his six-month loan at Tottenham.

Following a confusing transfer affair during the winter window, the 20-year-old eventually joined Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, going on to notch three goals and an assist in 20 appearances.

Supporters have been left split on a permanent move for the French winger, though Football Insider understands that Tel is open to staying at Tottenham permanently this summer.

Bayern Munich are believed to be confident that a deal can be reached, but with a potential new manager being consulted on any deal, a transfer in North London has been delayed until there is clarity.

Football Insider broke the news that Daniel Levy is set to sack Ange Postecoglou due to Spurs’ form in the Premier League, but it appears that the disruption has not put Tel off a permanent move.

Mathys Tel celebrates with Tottenham teammate on international duty

Taking to Instagram (5 June), Tel shared images from France Under-21s’ 2-1 win over Uzbekistan Under-21s, coming on at the hour mark in the international friendly.

The first photo was of him celebrating with current club teammate Wilson Odobert, with Brennan Johnson responding: “The boys,” while Micky van de Ven and Yves Bissouma liked the post.

Football Insider verdict

Spurs needed to hit the ground running in the summer transfer window, but with Postecoglou’s future up in the air right now, there has been zero movement behind the scenes in North London.

Man United, who had a dreadful campaign in the Premier League, have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and look set to bring Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford.

Football Insider understands that Thomas Frank is the top candidate to replace Postecoglou this summer, but until a decision is made, Tel will also face an uncertain future, given Bayern’s openness for him to leave.

Cristian Romero is expected to join Atletico Madrid, with Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison all possibly following the Argentine out the exit doors before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off.

Replacing these players will be far from easy, but until a new leading figure is found for the dugout, the Lilywhites are unlikely to be left with much time to get those deals done.
