‘Brentford flush with liquid cash can reject unacceptable bids’ – Stefan Borson

Brentford’s new investment from a Hollywood producer and his business partner has put the club in a position of huge strength financially this summer.

The Bees have made a name for themselves by selling their best players, and yet still finding ways to improve.

In recent years, Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa have all departed the GTech, yet the West London club continue to climb up the Premier League table.

However, Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham represents the most significant exit in their recent history, as the Dane has helmed Brentford’s ascent from Championship middle-grounders to European hopefuls.

And what’s more, the Bees are now trying to stave off interest from several Premier League giants for Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, finance expert Stefan Borson explained that following investment from Matthew Vaughn and Gary Lubner [The Athletic], Brentford were in a significantly stronger position than before.

Man City‘s former financial adviser also said that means the Bees are in a stronger position to turn down offers, as they simply did not need the cash.

Brentford will ‘continue to invest’ this summer

Whilst Mbeumo’s move to Man United seems inevitable, Brentford have been rewarded for staying strong on their £70million asking price, as they look set to secure that fee.

The investment likely would have played a part in getting the number they wanted, and it may continue to define Brentford’s summer, as the club may be able to keep Yoane Wissa despite interest from Newcastle.

Borson explained to Football Insider how the new investment would impact the Bees’ summer and the finance expert predicted a busy summer for Andrews’ side.

“Well, it puts cash into the club because I think they’ve issued new shares. So it means that the club has got cash. It’s not about the existing owner selling his shares, so that’s important in itself.

“And so it means that the club has got more liquidity for this summer.

“If you wanted to join dots, you could say, well, they’re even less likely now to accept [transfer bids] because they just don’t need the cash.

“They might like the cash, but they don’t need it, and so they’re not over a barrel and they can wait it out, and they can still continue to invest.

“I suspect we’ll see quite a lot of business from here on from Brentford now because they’ve got the cash there.”

Brentford receive update on Daizen Maeda fee

Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider exclusively that Brentford will have to pay £25m to secure Daizen Maeda’s services this summer.

The Bees are rivalling their former boss and London rivals Tottenham for the Japanese striker, although there is also significant interest from other European clubs.

Maeda transitioned from left-wing to striker last season and blossomed, scoring 33 goals and providing 11 assists for Celtic in all competitions.
